CrossPoint for the Diptyx Unofficial · early beta
Install the CrossPoint e-reader firmware on your Diptyx from the browser. It takes about a minute.
1 Put the Diptyx in download mode
- Unplug USB first. Hold the power button for 3 seconds until the screen changes (the stock firmware says POWER OFF), then let go. With the cable in, the Diptyx never fully turns off.
- Wait until it is really off. Give it at least 30 seconds. The stock firmware can take several minutes: press a page button, and if it buzzes, it is still on. With CrossPoint a page button should do nothing.
- Press the center button straight in and keep holding it.
- While holding it, plug in the USB-C data cable, keep holding for about 5 seconds, then let go.
The screens stay as they were in download mode. A charge-only cable won't work. If your computer lists the device as Diptyx E_reader, it is running normally and not in download mode: start again.
2 Connect
Click the button, pick USB JTAG/serial debug unit in the list, and wait for the checks.
3 Install or go back
Only the app slot (0x10000) is written. Your bootloader, partition table, settings and books are not touched.
Restores the original firmware. The image is downloaded from the Diptyx makers' repository and checked against a known checksum. Your settings and books are untouched.
Other options
A file of your own must be an app image for the Diptyx, not a full-flash image.
Working…
Keep the cable plugged in and this tab open until it says it's done.
Technical log
Having trouble?
- The Diptyx isn't in the list. It must be in download mode (step 1) and plugged in with a data cable. The usual cause is that it was not fully off when you plugged in: the stock firmware keeps running for minutes after it says power off. Try another USB port, and avoid hubs.
- "Busy" or "could not open". Close other tabs or apps that use the Diptyx's serial port (serial monitors, other flashers), then unplug and redo step 1.
- It says my partition table is not the stock one. This flasher only supports Diptyx units with the original layout and refuses to write anything otherwise. Nothing was changed.
- After flashing nothing happens. Unplug the cable, wait 15 seconds and plug it in again without touching any button. If the screens are still unchanged, press the left page button.
- The stock firmware will not turn on. Unplug the cable and tap the power button briefly. If nothing happens, wait 20 seconds and tap again. Do not hold the button: the stock firmware shuts itself down if it is held for 3 seconds at startup.
- Linux: if the browser can't open the port, add yourself to the
dialout(Debian/Ubuntu) oruucp(Arch/Fedora) group, or install the udev rule from the guide, then log out and in. - Back to stock any time: put the Diptyx in download mode again (step 1), connect, and use Go back to the stock Diptyx firmware in step 3.
